The Truck is Loaded

Well, it's been a week since our last post and we have been very busy preparing for our loading of the truck. The dining room was packed with boxes from the back wall to the door and we tried our best to have everything ready to go when helped arrived.

Wayne & Becky (Rachel's parents) arrived shortly after lunch time while the girls napped. Along with Brandon's help, we were able to get some last minute things dissassembled and ready to go on the truck. Wayne, Brandon, and Mark took off to go pick up the truck and then headed to Lowe's to pick up our refridgerator we had purchased for the new house. We were back at the house around 3:30. We loaded up a few large appliances from the garage and then moved the truck to the front of the house. When we pulled the truck into our neighbor's driveway to back up into our front yard, the incline of the driveway made the back of the truck (particularly the hitch) dig into the asphalt and high centered the truck so the back tires wouldn't move. After a quick call to a towing company, the truck was back in action and the loading crew made up of friends from Central Christian was in full motion. 75 minutes later, the back of the Penske was closed. It was a thing of beauty. The temperature wasn't bad (85) but it was still warm. We had plenty of cold drinks on hand as well as some wonderful brownies and cookie bars that one of the ladies from the church provided.

The load was so quick that some who had volunteered to help (but couldn't get here until after work) showed up and the load was done. So after saying thank yous and goodbyes to everyone we headed to Ryan's for some long-awaited supper. When we got home, the girls were excited to spend some time with Grandma & Grandpa Humphrey. A fun game of duck, duck, goose finished out the night.

Today, the agenda is to grab a trailer and fill it with odds and ends and finish cleaning up the house. Tomorow, we sign over the house and give up possession at 8 AM. We'll caravan down to Joplin and sign paperwork down there at 4 PM and unload the truck with a work crew from Christ's Church.

Our internet and phone service will end sometime today here in St. Joseph and we should be up and running again in Joplin on Friday. Until then, have a wonderful week and we would appreciate your continued prayers.
