School

We've been doing school for quite awhile around here now. Some days we get it done and some days we find other things to fill our time. We're on letter "F" right now. Ruthy loves it and Moriah is starting to enjoy it. We've added more game-type learning for Moriah where Ruthy loves worksheets and reading, etc. Anyway, today while I was printing off some papers for our class time i found a Kindergarten Skill Test. It's to assess a chid's vocabulary skills after kindergarten prior to 1st grade. (www.tampareads.com/skills/kindergarten/test-html.htm) if you're interested. Ruthy did great!! She recognized all the letters (except had some trouble on the little "q" and "p") and knew all the sounds the letters make. She recognzied 8 out of 10 color words (like "red") and knew how to count, her personal info (address, phone #) etc. Then we got down to where we had 30 common words she would have to be familiar with at the end of Kindergarten. She read 9 of them. As we got to the end of the list on a word she didn't recognize, she innocently said "Umm, you were in school". I am so proud of her though!!!

I could tell you that today Moriah cried for over 5 minutes because she couldn't get her milk because she refused to say "please". But, that wouldn't be as nice of a story as I just boasted on Ruthy. Moriah did really well today taking a nap. She said that Ruthy talked to her during nap time but she just went to sleep (something that would be hard to do with Ruthy talking). She had a lot of fun today at the YMCA playing with the kids. Every time I go pick her up she is playing with Javan and having a great time! She was reluctant to go to the playroom at the Y, the first day back so I asked her to help take care of Javan. She sure did. Monday Javan had trouble straining to go potty while at the Y. Moriah & Ruthy informed the teachers and the class to just 'leave him alone...he's going potty." The teachers thought it was pretty funny and figured they girls had heard that line before.

Javan is such a good natured boy. He is really doing great in class at church. The teachers all commented today how good he was and how he had such a great laugh so he must've had a good time. His favorite thing to do right now is make animal sounds. He can 'pop' his mouth like a fish, 'moo' like a cow, 'moo' like a dog...okay that one still needs some work, and 'snort' like a pig. The girls love this one! he wrinkles his nose, sticks out his lower jaw, closes his eyes and snorts!! It's adorable!
