Success at Skating

Today we went skating with some of the girls in our small group and their kids. Ruthy was excited until we started to put on the skates. Then, we slipped them on over her shoes but she wouldn't move, not even stand up. I carried her out onto the rink with the other kids. When she saw what they were doing she thought it might be fun to try. She clung on tightly for the first 20 minutes while she skated around the rink touching the different colored walls. She was really having a great time!!! Then, she decided she wanted to let go of my hand. I was shocked, and honestly a bit scared myself. She did SUPER!!! She skated the rest of the time without holding my hand.

After about 30 minutes of free skate they sit in a circle and do some circle-time poems. Then they do the limbo. Ruthy even did it. After that all they play games like red light-green light and skate to some other movement songs (like hokey pokey, etc). Ruthy enjoyed "blowing" the lights off just before they played "Ghostbusters" and turned on the strobe lights and other fun lights. Moriah got down and tried to catch the fun lights as they chased across the floor. After this they had a snack time where they provided a cookie and drink for all the kids. Today was their New Year's Party for the kids so they had a balloon drop. Each balloon had a piece of paper inside where you could win a treat from the concession stand. We won five gummy worms and a bag of cotton candy.

Ruthy had a great time and has talked about it all day. To say the least, we will definitely go back soon. They have it every Friday morning.

Moriah had a fun time walking around the circle with us, but most of the time she just wanted held.
